no catalytic converter. no carb filter thats why i said i would check the filter in the tank. we checked out the harmonic balancer for timing thinking maybe that would be it since it was a pretty quick job and he still has gas in his tank and thats not it. hopefully its that filter in the gas tank though. ill let you guys know. thanks again.

Before I dropped the tank I'd take a line off of the carb and turn the pump on to see how much gasoline I got!!
I would also put a light on the timing and run the engine up slowly to 3 grand to see ehat the timing was doing.. Your miss could also be a coil or sparkbox.. In olden days misses like you describe were most times a condensor and we replaced the points AND the condensor.

If you end up droppin the tank, check and/or replace all the rubber gas lines. They may have a crack that's allowing air in, affecting the volume of fuel which could cause problems at high fuel volume speeds. Check all of them rubber connects, you may have a problem there thats not obvious. Its the only thing I can think of that hasnt been covered on the fuel side. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
