They have a firing order that you have to duplicate when you replace the wires. If all you are doing is replacing the wires, just do it one at a time to avoid problems. If they will be off for awhile, any manual will have the firing order. Assuming you have an AMC V8, the firing order should be 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Starting from the #1 cylinder and moving clockwise through the firing order. So the #1 cylinder (front, drivers side) fires first, then work you way around the distributer. You may want to check first, in case you have something else.
