Hi guys

This is a general question, though possibly Jerry the Guru might answer it as it is concerning the C223:

As the Bosch VE (or any IP) wears, what symptoms typically become evident? What are the signs of pump wear?

My IP has been tampered with before I bought it, as the other 2 engine's pumps have been also.
With this one, I turned it up to smoke a bit during heavy acceleration, as it didn't before. However, the idle can't be turned down to anywhere near where it should be. On my first engine, and the 3 VW diesels I had before it, I could turn the pump up quite a bit and setting the idle wasn't an issue (now that I think about it, all of these were played with before I got them too! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> )
With 550,000 kms on it, I'm sure the pump is getting tired, however, this problem led me to ask the above question.
I have been driving it like this for 3 years now, and it's fine. I have the idle at almost 1000rpm, which it runs smoother like that anyway, and there is more amps available at the alternator for fan, wipers, ect during winter.
Rebuilding the pump is not financially an option at this point. I may take the one off the first engine and use it.

Anyone care to throw their thoughts at this one?
