Pull the codes. Sometimes there is a code still in the ECU that has not been cleared but the CEL light is not turning on because it is an old code.

Autozone will pull the codes for you for free and they will even tell you what they are. If you ask real nice they will even clear them for you so "you can check to see if what you just did at home fixed the problem."
