Need a Spot
I'm getting ready to replace my ball joint and tie rod ends, I'm finding lots of different shape, size, and priced tools for this job. It seems like the C frame tool would work best but is also the most expensive for a one time (hopefully) job. ????

Pickle fork, one 8lb sledge with about 12" of the handle cut off, one 4lb drilling hammer, or a fat ball pein. Loosen the castle nut, drive in the pickle fork enough to put the joint under tension, apply 8lb sledge to the eye of the joint as a backstop, and smack it with the 4lb to spring the eye and free the stud. Easiest and cheapest way to go. Even the 8lb hammer is not badly crippled for more common uses, and unless you hit the mark EVERY time, the handle will last longer when it's shorter. I cut the handle on every company sledge...

I just went through that little job on my newer Runner. Air hammer with a pencil nose on it was my buddy. C-clamp is okay, but you'll wail on it. Vise is handy to have.

Made my old Yota herd look like a cake walk.
