that's how a muffler reduces noise, by restricting the exhaust flow. Therefore, the ascending pistons meet more pressure in attempting to push the exhaust gas out, sapping power.

True but IIRC not enough back pressure also saps power. Not sure why though since race vehicles often run very short pipes. Perhaps it's a torque thing or a hp vs rpm thing.

Anyhow I have the same problem I use 3 band clamps to hold it in place. I haven't had time to drill it out and use a nut and bolt yet but I think that will be my next course of action.

I think there's more to it that just a need for back pressure. This explains it better than I can

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I guess I forgot to mention that it's still stock pipe up to my gutted cat, then a 2 1/4 pipe from then on. I agree with it being a little more free reving but I didn't really notice a loss of power or gain for that fact.......

$1.65, and it's fixed. I'm happy. There is a bracket/hanger thing near where the pipe goes over the rear axle that is broken. I intend to rig something up to relieve some of the stress that is on those bolts now. I know that bracket got broken when I was rear ended a few weeks ago.

LOL Did you really use C-clamps? It was a pain to get the old bolts out, just because my tool selection is limited. I ground the old ones down, and then used about 5 different bits, in progressively different sizes, until I could hit it out with a punch/hammer. I'm not sure what I'm going to do where that bracket broke off. I should probably see if I can find someone to weld it back up for me.

When I have to get a new muffler, I'd like to try one of those magna's. How about uploading a sound clip so I can hear it?

Damn straight! Add up all the time you spent with those bits... I took me about maybe two minutes to put the c-clapms on. I admit that every couple of months I had to retighten them. But what the heck, it was easy to do, and easy to know when- every time it started getting a little bit louder than usual.

$Free.99 repair that lasted until I sold it and had to take the time to do what you have.

Having said that, you shouldn't have to jack around later now like I did...

That should have been detailed under the "Minute Mods" thread, McV.
