Have an 87 p.u. with 22R. Time for a tune-up. Thinking about new cap & rotor & spark plugs. Seen several caps at Rockauto. Which is the better cap, aluminun terminals or brass? Also the carb flooded out a couple times. Might be time for needle & seat?

I think brass is a better conductor.Carb rebuild kit is not too bad 30-40 bucks, make sure to read scerbs carb facts if your not a carb expert.

I pretty sure Aluminum is a better conductor, but it corrodes faster, much faster than brass, copper. Thats why they used Aluminum wiring in some houses then stopped. It was better and cheaper than copper, but then they learned that it corroded way too fast and ended up with a lot of house fires due to the corrosion, so People/Contractors had to stop using it.

Aluminum is better than the brasses, but copper is considerably better than either. Aluminum wiring was a cheap alternative at the time but someone didn't know their chem and physics...or whoever got it accepted by code had a brother-in-law in the aluminum wire business.

I recommend cap and rotor from your Toyota dealer. I haven't seen anything that is better.

I totally agree. I went with a factory rotor and cap when I did my tune up. I can't remember what I paid, but it wasn't much if any more than an after market set.

I used NGK spark plugs when I did my tune-up, as they were highly recommended by others on this board. As for the cap, rotor, and wires stick with the OEM from Toyota, you can't beat 'em. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
