My brother had a ranger with the 2.3 and I would have to disagree with you on that one. The 2.5 has more power but a Pajero does weight a lot more than a pickup truck..

well good info all! I expect that my new Pajero will have comparable pick to my 1987 Nissan "Dentra" haha. It is a right hand drive, LWB and it is a manual. My concerns were simply if it would pull a couple of quads and camp gear and since thats probably under 3000lbs I figure i should be good. The other concern was being offroad capable which is partly why I insisted on the manual, that and I hate autos. Well it's still in Japan waiting to be shipped and I can't wait to get it. I guess time will tell but according to the agent there is very little surface rust on the under carriage and just a few dents. All power options work well and no leaks yet. I hope not with only 65000kms on it but I will keep an eye on it. Ya Platinum mitsubishi is where I checked for parts before I bought and they said it was no problem to get parts...So since I am a newbie when it comes to diesels, what is my best option for the cold Alberta winters as far as keeping the motor warm...I was thinking about an ignition bypass so I could pull the key out when running the motor before work. aside from that, block heater or oil pan heater and where to get it?

C'mon Ed, you're selling the Paj short! We've got closer to 109 hp! But HP is not the claim to fame of this engine - its the torque: 170 lbs/ft at 2k rpm. For a small 4banger, this is not bad at all. I've towed my tent trailer all the way from Calgary to Van and back, through the mountains. It'll pull a few quads easily.

Platinum Mitsu should be able to look up parts for you now - I hooked em up with the Japanese spec version of their CAPS parts program . Paul is a good guy there on the counter...

You're welcome. If you're ever in Airdrie, let me know and you can check out a Pajero that has been wheeled and driven extensively over the last year.

As far as an ignition bypass, I wouldn't do it. You don't want to idle it any longer than necessary. As far as starting on our cold morns, block heater is the cheapest/most effective route, $35 at CanTire if you can put it in yourself. Read the thread about block heaters elsewhere on this forum, I think I posted the part number in the cross-ref, stickied above.

More questions, fire away - there are enough of us here now that someone should have an answer.

How long till you take delivery?

OK Great, I may look you up as i have several friends in airdrie and tend to go north a fair bit. As far as the bypass, we use them extensively at work and it would be used just for the few minutes before I head to work so I don't leave the keys in it...I see too many stolen cars because of owners "just warming up" their cars before they leave, keys in the ignition. I definately wouldn't be running the thing for hours like some guys with thier big fords or dodges. Also, why would a block heater be better than an oil pan heater. I have heard oil pan heaters are better so I am interested in your take. please don't mistake my curiosity for rudeness. I am really quite ignorant when it comes to diesels.

Did you import yourself or through a company ?

If so, whom did you get it through ?

PM me the day before, and we can make arrangements - weekends are usually the best time to catch me...

As far as block heater versus oilpan heater? Others may have differing opinions...but... the block heater warms the coolant in the water jacket, which results in a quicker warm up time. AFAIC, oil pan heater is good for initial startup, since the warmer oil should flow easier, but otherwise will not heat up the engine as quick as the coolant. Some have also installed inline coolant heaters, which simply go in-line on the lower rad hose, but I didn't find it nearly as effective as the frost-plug type block heater (I had an in-line on my V6 Raider).

YMMV

The frost plug heater has worked very well for my gas engine Rodeo so I think knowing the accesiblity and the ease of installation I will probably just go with what I know.

I have purchased the pajero from a company called Terra2 Imports out of Vernon. I spoke to a couple of people and they seemed happy with them. I spoke to another who ordered a Delica from a local company called Luxury imports. I checked out luxury imports and I must say, very nice stuff but i found it expensive from my research. I know of two people who ordered through Terra 2 and they were happy but didn't pay the expense that was being asked here in Calgary. Luxury imports wanted about 12000 + for a 100,000 km + Pajero. Through Terra 2 they spoke to me about the options, condition and what apecifically I wanted out of the vehicle. From there they sourced out various vehicles for me to pick from. After that I put a bid on one for a max price and they bid on it at the lowest price available. I put a bid in for 11k and they got me the vehicle for 7600+ delivered to my door ready to be registered (so far) . I haven't actually recieved the vehicle so ask me in about two months but so far they have been awsome to deal with. DON'T BUY FROM "MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE" IN VANCOUVER!!!!! I checked out an isuzu Bighorn from them, even went as far as having it inspected. After having it inspected i found that the transfer case was partially zip tied on to the frame. Can you say Sketchy!

Hey Phil, Thanks again for the info.

Another question though. What is the stock rim size for my 92 Pajero LWB and what kind of work did you do to fit 33's?
