Need a Spot

(yes i tried a search)
i was wondering if anybody knew what oem wheels/centercaps would interchange on my '97 T-100 w/ 16'x7' 6 lug wheels? i bought a set of '07 taco wheels/tires(16'x7' 6 lug) and they fit great but the front center cap wouoldn't fit and my old ones wouldn't fit? so i sold them back to the guy,but now i've been reading about wheel spacers. can someone tell me what wheel spacers are and where do they go(behind the wheel or what? thx for any help
