So does it still lose pressure to ZERO? Or what?
Seems all you need is a dist pickup and a sparkbox and you will be all new in there.. Does that engine have a CPS?
Backfire usually means loss and regaining spark..

you have alot more newer systems than my CJ, but I pulled my hair out for months facing the same thing you are, eventually it went from backfires to stalls a couple minutes down the road. I replaced most of the stuff you did. turned out to be my MSD spark box which wasn't all that old, so I it was the last thing I checked

yea ive checked all the ez stuff and still nada. but yea if you try to go anywhere it sometimes it takes 10 miles sometimes it takes 1/4 mile and it losses all fuel pressure i just dont know what or how to check anything, like i read there is a resister that i can check well i couldn't find it so i rewired the fuel pump to a switch 12v and that did not work. so what would do that?????????? even with the fuel pump wired to the bat it did it. so im lost <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Dude we are trying to tell you...backfires are caused by a loss of spark!

i started lookin throu the other post and the guy NOBULL had the same prob or at least close. and there is no more back fire just the loss of pressure. so that is 1 prob down 1 to go. basicly after a few mins of drive time it acts like it runs out of gass when you put your foot in it and if you back off it picks up the pressure and starts to go for a little while mostly at higher rpms and in gear sometimes it will do it when im sitting still and rev it. i hope this helps

One possibility would be the new filter is already stopped up. Another might be a badly crimped fuel hose. Another might be the wrong gas cap..have you tried taking it OFF and driving?
Also Wranglers have had problems in the past with the GROUND to the fuel pump..
