After a great meat market experience. Organic, of course. Parking was a bit of a problem, or so we thought - my favorite spot right next to the mall entrance was taken. Ah, no worries, plenty of spots. There was a lot to choose from. The air conditioning seemed to be blowing a bit hard, especially during the evening entertainment. But the variety of organic meat was really inspiring, and we shopped the first day just to see what there was to choose from. We got up early the next day with a goal in mind, I have a new recipe to try out and it required JUST the right kind of venison. I knew I had seen what I wanted the day before, but of course the store is restocked every night so one simply cannot be too sure where it will be the next day. I chose this one: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Taken within fifteen minutes of legal 'shopping'. I can be stealthy. ![[Linked Image]](http://redchili.smugmug.com/photos/204643413-L.jpg) Lots of parking at this mall, you can see my parking spot just to the right of the muzzle. No, the shot was not quite that long, it was about half that distance: ![[Linked Image]](http://redchili.smugmug.com/photos/204641436-M.jpg) Of course, with such natural meat, there is a bit of self service involved. I hate tarps, and with the wind at 45mph, I hate hair in my meat. Time for SupahRiggah to rig something: ![[Linked Image]](http://redchili.smugmug.com/photos/204641697-M.jpg) Justin (88ToyTruck) got hisself a nice doe fawn (GOOD eating!), but with the crosswind placing the shot on a moving target was a challenge. Here, one avoids the disrupted internals and preserves as much meat as possible, only losing the tiny tenderloins: ![[Linked Image]](http://redchili.smugmug.com/photos/204641808-M.jpg) Forrest is READY with deadly intent for the next morning's hunt. This is his very first: ![[Linked Image]](http://redchili.smugmug.com/photos/204642300-M.jpg) Even in the Wyoming wilds, here are the gadget guys... ![[Linked Image]](http://redchili.smugmug.com/photos/204642863-M.jpg) And a fine way to end a fine day's outing at the natural foods mall: ![[Linked Image]](http://redchili.smugmug.com/photos/204642977-L.jpg)

Ya, about 32* at night that trip. Colder this week. Not so cold in Denver, but the high country is white.

Tough to do with antelope and no cover. One of the party came up early and bowhunted. Never got close even with a ghillie suit.
This was the offroad 'shakedown' run for all the work I did fixing the rollover. No real issues found (but not a lot of true offroading either - just rough ranch roads and towing a camper at highway speeds. The windshield trim flew off in the Wyoming wind which the windshield folks will cover).

Well, the fiberglass gets caught between my teeth...
OH!
Good eating IF you skin and debone them quickly and chill them down. We hunt with coolers in the truck and chill them quickly. If you run them, the lactic acid makes the meat taste like liver. If you overcook them, they adopt the taste and texture of shoeleather (no fat to cover cooking sins).
Sear them medium rare at MOST, over a HOT flame, with olive oil, worcestershire, garlic, and steak seasoning, and you have a rare treat. (I vacuum pack them in worcestershire and olive oil to seal the meat.) Or, sear a roast, then put it in a crock pot with beef broth, onions, garlic, pepper, your favorite pot roast seasonings, and you can cut it with a fork.

I had to laff seeing ALL THAT ORANGE.
Yeah man, good eats. I don't think that nifty rigger would hold up a moose carcass tho. Slick. It would work for a 'boo---IF you could drive to the thing, or close.

That's what the Buck Truck is for.
Orange? You ain't seen nothin'. Wyoming requires a hat, or a vest, but not both, and orange camo is approved. Colorado is much tighter. My regalia for Colorado elk hunting is completely orange. Mebbe I don't trust the average elk hunter in Colorado? Naww... ya think?
The game warden wandered down to check a nice big tender doe my buddy got. No orange at all.
As far as anything bigger than a 'lope or medium deer, no, that rig won't do it. For elk the conditions are colder and cleaner generally, and I use the hide as a tarp. The truck, however, does fine duty as game fetcher where we hunt (popular but unnamed 4x4 area... ) - once we get the game to the trail however.
It is a common misconception among old hunters that leaving the trail with an ATV or vehicle is permissible to retrieve game. Absolutely untrue. Buck truck, horse, or pack only.
