I sold my first 'zu so I could buy something to tow with. I ended up with a full size Bronco and I loved it.
I always regretted selling the old Trooper (1990 that sold to Rip De Lips several years back, now I believe it belongs to Paul Evans...)
I finally had the opportunity to get another Trooper... The unfortunate part is that I have to start modding all over again, while the great part is that I got a newer one with a more powerful engine. I have noticed that the prices of the parts has shot up a bit, making it no less expensive to lift a trooper than any other truck. Last time it was easy and cheap... Oh well... such is the way of things.
The other negative to me selling the '90 is that I no longer had a need to come to this site, so I located one for the Bronco. I met a good group of guys there and got involved in some wrenching and off road rides, but the group over here seems to be a bit more closely-knit. Maybe it is because we have an interest in an unusual (albiet very capable) brand of trucks, where the Full Size Broncos are a "dime-a-dozen" breed.
After a long hot summer of wrenching on the Bronco and over 3,ooo in parts and services, and after step tubes, lift and larger tires, I happily sold it and jumped at the chance to have my very own 2G Trooper.
The Bronco and I logged many a mile together, and I shall miss him, but he did go to a good home where the new owner will take care of him. I can always find another one later. Next time, I won't sacrafice my Trooper to get one.
It took me several days to re-find this website. I found several others, but none begin to compare to this one!
Now... Having said that... I need to start scraping parts together to lift my '94. This time I don't have to fool with motor changes and TBIs and seventeen other mods to try to squeeze 3 more horsepower from a weak- motor!
So in summary, the new Troop would have to really become a dog of a truck before I would give any consideration to selling it.
So now... Let's make the Trooper in the right picture below look more like the Trooper in the Left picture.

My 98 Rodeo is a piece. I have beat the crap outta it, put more money into it than its worth, and it sure as heck doesnt get me any a** (well at least any that still has all thier teeth). That said you'd still have to pry it outta my cold dead hands.

Nothing could get me to part with my 94 rodeo. Its just the memory of my grandpa that died about a year and a half ago and its what I was able to buy as a part of the settlement of his estate. And I learned to drive in that truck, and its the first truck I got and I couldnt see myself parting with it. Ive done all the work on it myself and despite all thats wrong with it I am the only one that can get the thing to keep running no matter what. I may be low on money and always working on it but as far as I see it, I will never part with it. I will keep it even it its fallen apart and doesnt run. I would still fix it and keep it going for as long as I can.

It doesn't take much for me, I'm on my 7th Isuzu(5 1st gen Troopers and 2 1st gen rodeos). I've had 4 Mitsus, a 68 Bronco, a 72 Bronco, an '04 Xterra and an 87 Turbo 4runner. None of them even come close to the Isuzus I've owned. Not exactly sure why, but it is what it is. I've gone from building and running a very trail built rig to now wanting a solid, mostly stock 4wd and in both cases the job was/is filled by an Isuzu.

My 2 cents to thread. it is very possible, that my Trooper will be my first and last SUV. Yes, after 90K miles, 3 times replaced transmission (thanks to 10 yrs/120K miles power train warranty! no penny out of my pocket), some not big mods it still not boring to drive it on FW and especially off-road. Will keep my Trooper until it will be reasonable to maintain it. Why? Tell me, what is close to it on the road, but not compare by one parameter! Only one SUV can replace my Trooper - MBZ GL500.
2001 Trooper LS 3" lift,no more Rancho 9000RX, no more 4L30E transmission, ProComp 8" 130W driving lights, Surco roof rack (modified), 110V power outlet, Viair 380C compressor, CB/FRS/GPRS/HF/VHF/UHF Radio, 285/75/16 BFG AT/KO.

Well, my 2000 Trooper burns oil, and I'm expecting it to die sometime in the future, in which case I'll simply replace the entire powertrain if I have to.
Every time I think about getting rid of her, either something happens to convince me otherwise or I simply take her out for a spin.
She was the vehicle I bought as I was getting divorced; the first financial decision I made on my own after that fiasco. She took me to Mexico and across the eastern US. She carried my children in safety and comfort, earning her the name "Cachito" from my kids. Yes, I have an emotional bond with this thing.
Get rid of it? NEVER. They're going to bury me in this thing.

Get rid of the Trooper? Just wont happen. I've thought about it a couple of times, mostly when I am tired of working on it, but I just cant do it. I plan on giving it to my son in a few years, but it will never leave the family. Maybe its silly, but I just cant see parting with it. Ive beat on it, and it doesn't complain. I've abused it and it asks for more. I've bled with it, I've cursed at it, I've cried with it. Its been totaled by an ex-wife, and I brought it back to life. Its been on fire, i brought it back to life again. Its mine. Its a part of me. People know me by it, and when they see me driving something else they tell me it doesn't look right. Its been through thick and thin with me. Its the faithful compainion that doesn't let me down, ever. I love the thing!! Well, I'm new to the "zu" relationship but it has grown on me. I have been the proud owner of many CJ-7s and a few other various 4x4s and am truely impressed with my Trooper. It never seems to stop suprising in its ability to do everything my beloved CJs did and more.
Best wishes to all!
