Body Damage is Cool
Hey guy's I've been thinking about this project for awhile..

I've got a 93 trooper with 69,000 original miles, it has a perfect frame (no rust) And runs really good. Its got a salvage/rebuilt title. Its been in two accidents The first one resolted in the salvage title, the second one was never repaired, I bought it after being wrecked. It needs a new front clip, but is still drivable.
The interier is in great shape but the exterier sucks.
Its got alot of bondo under the paint, and the paint job is extreamly crappy!!!!!!.

Anyway I want to end up with a newer trooper (2000-up), and I'm thinking that I won't be able to get anything for the 93.

My 89 trooper is getting pretty old and worn out, I'm going to need a engine pretty soon. That got me thinking of swaping in the 93 troopers frame/engine into my 89.
That way I'd get the new coil suspension, newer engine, more power, nicer frame, ect..

Anyway what do you guys think <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Your going to find it's almost a bolt in.
Been preparing to do one myself and have the specs on the two different frames. I can't remebmer which body mount is off, but it's only off by like 1/4" to 3/8" of an inch of lining up. IIRC the frames are the same length, only difference is the stuff mounted to them. You should enjoy going to coils and links instead of the tired leafs.

Go for it.

I'm probably going to end up doing the swap, but it might be awhile. I've got to work out of a 1.5 car garage <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

I want to be able to keep everything on my first gen dash working.

Anybody have any idea of how much of a pain it will be to wire in the 3.2L. I'm guessing I'm going to have to use all of the wiring from the 93. Or should I try to adapt my 89's harness?

I've heard that the wheelbase on the second gens are a few inches longer. does anybody know if its the rear thats been stretched or the front, or both.

I want to plan everything out before I start.

I would just transfer the "93" wiring harness over to the "89". It would be a whole lot easier! The dash wires shouldn't be that hard to change over with both of them right there. You should be able to leave the rear harness on the "89" cause I don't think there will be much, if any, splicing you'll need to do there.
Just get a label maker and start labeling. That's how I'm doing Melissas Trooper. Going from a 5 speed stick to 4 speed auto. So basically it's the same thing. Oh, and be very generous with the camera. Sure saves time not to have to remember every detail.

Not sure of the exact difference right now but, I can look it up later tonight in the spec books. It's not much IIRC.

Not a bad idea. I'm swapping in a diesel into my "89" I Mark this week. There are a lot of differences there. The 2.2 TD Trooper is next. I'm off work the rest of the month! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> So I got time! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
