So I guess many of you have heard that Al Gore won, in part, the Nobel Peace Prize for his environmental work and his part in the 'Inconvenient Truth' film. A film based on questionable and very much debatable science which was presented as fact. What a crock I feel sorry for the past winners who really deserved it. They actually had people in the world service this morning saying 'we must find a way to reverse climate change'!! What?!! They're deluded Thankfully they also interviewed those who presented a counter argument. What we need to do is prepare for the climate changes

What do you lot think?

Given the old news that his house is one big carbon pig in iteself, yet he is 'aware' of global warming, makes me wonder when I'll get my Nobel for picking up trash when I fish.

Its an insult to the past winners.

Now that's a funny pic Rich

The Nobel Committee are making a political statement here and that's not their job. They are saying the science is not the important issue here, but the effect of climate change on conflict around the world How can we make a decision regarding what to do about climate change if we don't consider the true cause of it which is currently a subject of debate

I thought you had to actually promote peace not just talk about the weather.

Well the Nobel has been a joke ever since they gave it to Yassar Arafat, head of the PLO and one of the most notorious terrorists of all time. Funny how they just overlooked Black September at the 1972 Olympics

I agree with you guys. What a crock. The Nobel commitee should have really thought that one through. I too believe that it is a dishonor to those that have won them before, and deserved them.

I believe that yes, we are helping global warming along, but it is going to happen regardless. What would the gov be saying if we were going into the planets next ice age?? I think it is a BS issue that people are using to say they care about to win political ground.

The earth goes through cooling and heating stages, and has since the birth of this great planet. It would happen whether we were here or not. Just wait till volcanic activity goes apes**t again...then we will be in big trouble!

Yeah, it's a crock. Look at the past winners of the peace prize. It's historically gone to people who either called attention to or worked actively improve human rights, resolve international conflicts (military or otherwise), etc. Every now and then they just give it to the Secretary General of the UN if they can't find somebody better. But it seems the Nobel committee has been getting more desperate lately. Last year they gave the peace prize to a guy who promoted micro-lending as a means for poor people to get off their feet. That's great, but they have a Nobel prize for economics, which would seem more appropriate. I suppose promoting socioeconomic development is indirectly related to peace, fine. But global warming? Quite a stretch IMO.

It makes me laugh! Why do they HAVE to award the prize every year? If no one is worthy one year... Imagine the honour of being the first to be awarded the Nobel prize for 5 years or whatever.

It's a bit like the Queen's honours (which I think is ridiculous anyway). She gives them out every year! Nowadays you can be a soap star AND have a knighthood for services to British telly
