The driveshaft bolts have a 17mm head. I dont know how long they are. I used bolts that bolt on the lower ball joint. Looked to be slightly long, but they have worked for the last 10k miles.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Got bolts and nuts coming from Fastenal, be here tomorrow. Spent the last hour at work stripping and prepping the new axle to go in. Without rotors being on this axle, the backing plates got bent to hell, so I had to use the BFH and then some BF snips to cut away what I couldn't get straightened. Talked to the guy from the JY today and he said he'll see if he can do anything to help me. I'll talk to him again tomorrow. Told him he could credit me back some money for my trouble. Dunno, we'll see. Rechecked the u-joint measurements again, and they seem correct. Moment of truth will be 5am Sunday. I'll have the computer up and keep ya'll up to speed on how it goes. Thanks for all the help and encouragement

$160 my cost for pads, calipers with saddles, rotors, and hoses. I was gonna do that soon anyway. Just not right now. $27 for the f'ing bolts is what really pisses me off

cools awsome Hazy. Geez $160 for all those parts? That seems really cheap. The axle looks like it's in amazing condition
Backing plates don't do anything anyway. Just cut them off

Thanks! Yeah, I get a hella good deal on parts. My NAPA store got bought by an independant, so for the next 3 months the store gets 10% off DC pricing. And, I pay 5% over store net cost. Kind of a reward from the new owner for staying with him when everybody else bailed I may get the parts in trade for some work that needs to be done to the delivery trucks. Plus I get to work on my junk at the store after hours. Price breakdown: Calipers: P/N 242-64011 & 242-64012 $30.43 ea exchange Rotors: P/N 4886378 $27.00 ea Pads: P/N CMX7447 $32.44 (NAPA Ceramix) Hoses: P/N 36824 $6.25 ea
Also, I've got the idler arm and pitman arm to go on this weekend as well. Idler: P/N 268-3651 $46.71 Pitman: P/N 268-1654 $35.22
As you can see, sweet prices on parts. If anybody needs anything, let me know. You pay shipping and you've got it!

Re spare mounting, I'd use longer bolts inserted from the body side, then run about 4 nuts down on each one as a spacer, then 2-3 to hold the spare on. I wouldn't worry too much about the weight on the back door. I've had two people standing on the spare unloading a 20' 4"diam. sch 40 steel pipe off the roof of a gen1 lwb. I was one of them at about 160, and the other guy weighs about 250. You can look up the weight per foot on 4" sch40 on your own...

Well dang Eddy! Reckon I should've waited to get those spacers. I can still use them on the front when I put the SR axle in if the width difference is noticeable to me. Knowing that the spare mount can handle the weight, I'll do as you suggest.
To other news... hit my first snag. Got the wrong bolts from Fastenal. Guy I talked to ordered what I asked for, 12x1.75. My mistake. Should've been 12x1.25. DOH This may put me off till next weekend unless I can get some tomorrow. Not likely, since Grainger and Fastenal are closed on weekends. I have some bolts here that are the right size, but they're 8.8 instead of 10.9 (metric equivalent of grade's 5 & 8, respectively) You guys think these will work? The tensile strength is 120,350 psi for 8.8 and ~150,000 for 10.9. For what I'm using it for, I can't see getting to 120,000 psi. Am I thinking correctly?
