He is being sued by Lance Cpl. Sharratt for damages. He is trying to hide behind the speech and debate clause but since he made the comments on public t.v. and not on the floor of the house I don't think he is protected.

No Murtha isn't sheilded from a civil suit. The speech/debate clause is to protect them from being sued by each other, it doesn't sheild them if they publicly defame a fellow American.

Unfortunately you wont find any major news agency confronting Murtha and others about their comments, even if they did, I am sure Murtha would simply reply they got off and were still guilty.
