I have a '95 4WD Pickup with the 3VZE in it and I have been averaging around 12-13mpg around town. Is this normal? I mean I have buddies with huge lifted Chevys with 350s that get better around town. Any help would be appreciated.

Thats alot lower than I've seen on mine. Usually about 15 - 16 mpg [5 speed with manual hubs (unlocked)].

I get about 13 or 14 around town with mine. If I try, I can get 15, but then it's no fun driving. That's why I have a Corolla....26-27 around town driving it like a NASCAR.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I have the 3.0 in my 92 gutles and bad gas milage,I put a K-N and it helped a little,I hear opening the exhoust works wonders Ill let ya know when I do mine,how it does.

If you have an auto tranny that is about right for the 3.0 in truck.
If you have 4.10's gears w/31's(stock is 4.56 for manual and 4.88 for auto), your mpg could be off by 10-11%

Mpg also depends on your driving style, jack rabbit take-off will kill the mpg in Toyota trucks.

It could also be time for a minor tune-up.

You could also have a sticking/stuck exhaust valve, how is it performing?

My truck is performing really well actually. I just changed the oil a couple of days ago and I can tell that helped a little. Would it be worth it to look into a throttle body spacer? Or do they even make one for the Pickup?

No one that I know of makes a throttle body spacer for the 3.0. Downey Off-road makes a larger throttle body(bores out your oem one), but it isn't CARB legal here in CA.

When was the last time the spark plugs, cap and rotor, spark plug wires, and air filter changed? When these parts start to get worn, they can cause poor gas mileage, and are the cheapest place to start.

A bad/old O2(oxygen) sensor will also cause poor gas mileage.

What does teh exhaust look like?, did the previous owner put a large hi-flow system on it? An exhaust that is to open will cost these engines their low end torque, causing you to be deeper into the throttle than you should be, reducing your mpg's.

Low tire pressure will also hurt mpg's, as well as carrying extra weight?

A clogged EGR valve will also reduce your gas mileage.

We can help you narrow it down by getting your rigs info, i.e., tranny type, gear size, and tire size. The gear info will be on the door jam plate, in the lower left hand corner by the oem tire size, it should be either G284, G294,G254, or G144.

no, they dont make a throttle body spacer for the 3.0, but the intake kit helped my truck.

Also, do you smell gasoline any where around the truck? about a year ago, i started getting really bad milage, down around where you are sayin. i was only gettin two or three trips back and forth between school when the milage was at its worst, which is only about five or six miles from where i live. after about two weeks of this, i started smelling gas around the truck. i found that it was leaking from a small, mushroom looking thing on the rear of the passenger side fuel rail. that is the fuel pressure vibration dampener. when it goes bad, it leaks fuel. unfortunatly, it leaks directly onto the exhaust crossover pipe on the stock manifolds. if it goes long enough, it runs the risk of causing fire. i hope this helps, just relaying my experiences with crappy milage lol. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I too have a 1995 Toyota (4 X 4) that I just purchased and was amazed that I only get about 15 mpg! I also noted that it has a gas smell when I start it, and was told by a friend that the oxygen sensor in these models (he has one) tend to go out frequently and may be the cause of the bad mpg. Anyone else hear of something along these lines? Thanks!
