Once all the wires are cut and all federal emissions equipment tampering laws are broken and then to top it off running dirtier than the oe rig was designed to do...is done..you want it to run well? maybe clean, maybe well enough to pass an emissions test (I know, you probably don't live where they do that) but we all should want to pollute as little as possible...
Now that you have mangled it, you might as well keep mangling. Get a DUI distributer (yes, spend MONEY!) do the rest of this right. This will eliminate the ignition problems, then call Howell (spend MORE money) and get a TBI system have a professional shop install it and be happy that it is all done correctly and is as clean running as possible. Please don't take this personaly, but a tech who knows what they are doing would never do the bypass in the first place. That OE BBD system works great if maintained.
JNutter and I had many long talks about this, the bottom line is..he tried to buy a new computer for his rig and it cost more than he wanted to spend, so he searched wrecking yards and found several used ones that still did not fix the problem, so he went around the system "bypassing it) NBP was born. His technique was not new, I did the distributer portion of the BP years before because the ECUs did not exist for certain old 83-84 cjs.
I always kept the stepper system intacked and never had one not pass an etest, when we were done.
Nutter always looked at it like all jeep owners are poor and can't spend any money building a jeep and that no time spent chasing parts in a wrecking yard was ever a waste of time. My argument is that if a qualified tech works on your vehicle Yugo to Benz you stand a better chance of having it done right and "most" DIYers. He thought that was wrong.
The bypass when done correctly will always pollute more than one with the oe system set up right, this is because the stepper motors is always set rich.
