Wouldn't the reflector on the top-inside of the hood only work if you were facing the wrong way in traffic? ;-)

I always carry a set of reflector belts to wear, and some flares in my jumper cable bag.

When I help people and they say, "is there anything I can do to repay you" I tell them if they really want, they can give me a buck per flare--and then go buy a pack of their own! And maybe a little safety gear as well.

If nothing else, it makes them think that someone is sacrificing (time, money, injury risk) to help them. I know they think about it because I get asked, "Where can you buy flares?"

My favorite reply: "You can get them by the case if you go down to the donut shop and get them out of the back of a cop car. Or try any auto parts store, it's usually easier."

Using humor to reinforce.

(Help is something I've rarely got when I broke down--and sometimes people refuse to help if you ask! I never refuse anyone who needs a jump.)
