Wouldn't the reflector on the top-inside of the hood only work if you were facing the wrong way in traffic? ;-)

Umm... No.

If you're on a two lane road, it will help the oncoming traffic see you. Especially, if you happen to be stopped just outside, inside, or actually in a curve.

I also have strobe lights in all four corners that I can turn off, if needed.

I too carry flares and a rotating yellow magnetic beacon that plugs in to a cigarette lighter.

I think we were on different wavelengths. The original discussion was about direct safety. I'm not disagreeing reflective tape helps oncoming traffic notice you, I was thinking that if you're well off the road to the far right (past asphalt, if possible), it generally doesn't provide much in the way of safety from traffic on the far left.

Generally because if someone is drunk or not looking at the road, reflective tape doesn't matter--and in the case of drunks, the light might draw them to you! I'll also assume you would not stop on a sharp curve (stop before or coast until after) unless you had no other option.

And if you installed strobe lights on all four corners of your vehicle and carry a rotating yellow light, that puts any safety measure I have to shame.

Can you take a picture of where you mounted strobe lights? I can't see them mounted externally in the picture. I have a small portable one for diving that I take with me when I'm biking at night; it runs of a single AA and works great to alert drivers on the road turning left in front of me (a regular bike light wasn't working.)

They are inexpensive (Under $25. ) But unless I wanted to tear apart a light fixture I can't picture how to mount it without having it look very odd. Do yo have some easy method?
