Hey all- what is the 60A fusible link for? Where does it go and what does it protect? Just wondering! My truck: 86 ext cab 22r 5 sp.

Look at where it runs from and to. Also check the FSM in the sticky link at the top of the forum. They use fusible links because they are cheaper than installing a fuse and it is never expected to blow unless something major has happened. The ones I remember in various autos usually link the battery to the main fuse block.

I bleive it is for the starter circuit. It's either that one or the 40A one, can't remember.

It goes across your core support to a little rectangular box on the driver's fender. There's a terminal lug there, which transitions to the alternator harness; it's your B+ feed on the alternator.

If it's blown, INSPECT that harness on the alternator side. Remember to disconnect your battery first. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />

These older trucks have the insulation fail, and should be periodically checked.
