I did a quick search here but couldn't find anything, the recommended Fram oil filter (PH 3614) is a little on the small side, there's lots of room for a larger one, does anyone know if there's a larger filter I can swap for the stocker ?

Why would you want a larger one? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

You can use a V6 or even a V8 filter on your 22re if space permits. The threads are the same. Look up a filter for a 97 4Runner V6 or a 99 Land Cruiser V8.

Buh??? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> Why would you want your filter to create back pressure for the oil pump to work against? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> You want the oil pressure to be where it is needed, at the bearings/etc. that need to be lubricated. Yes, bigger is better provided all other attributes stay the same. -- Bryan

OK bud, the filter you use is the same as the 3vz and 5vz. Next time your at the oil filters, look for one that fits a ford taurus 3 liter, the number should be PH360X (i forget the exact number) It's has the same threads and everthing, just is about 1.5 inches longer. I use this on my engines with no problems at all. I just put alittle more oil down the crankcase cause of the larger filter.
Cheers bud! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

A larger filter will increase oil and contaminant capacity and shouldn't hurt oil pressure at a constant rpm. It might slow oil pressure change when the rpm changes. It will take longer to fill at start up though.

Initial start up is the concern ..
larger filter takes longer to build system pressure ..
as we know the chain is the first passage in the oiling system , to get oiled .. and I think the most crutial . Larger filter hinders pressure build on start up .. causing premature chain wear .
it's only mili seconds .. but hey , why help you engine fail .
