Its seems to me that if you change your oil when it needs it (e.g. when it's just starting to get dirty), then the size/filtration properties of the filter are irrelevant. Att hat point, it's finished doing its job. Maybe a bigger filter buys you 500 extra miles? Big deal.

Re: the oil spilling back out of teh filter when you take it off... does the OE toy filter not have an anti-drainback valve in it? I thought it did - but the last time I replaced min, it did indeed spill back out. I use the same Toyota dealership OE filter on my wife's Saturn too (since it matches the 3614 - and BOY does that make the Saturn guys crazy, hahaha) and sometimes it drain, sometimes not.
