The Amigo just randomly died on the highway. Some trouble shooting revealed a blown ECM fuse. New fuse allowed it to go another 40 feet before popping that one as well. The engine is getting fuel when cranking; but no spark. I swapped the coil with a known working one and it had no effect. I suspect a grounded wire somewhere (electrical problems <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> ) I'm going to start more in-depth trouble shooting this week; just wanted to make a quick post before leaving for work to see what others can come up with until that time. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I had this happen in my old pickup. Turned out to be that the wire harness that goes to the vacuum switching valve grounded out. Burned up the end of the harness to it. No clue how/why that happened, but it was the same symptoms you're talking about. I ended up having to just keep trying fuses since I was stuck on the side of the road. Finally got it home ... I guess the wire moved enough to quit grounding out. Ever since then I kept a box full of fuses, lol.

Tried to do some investigating today; but it started up fine and ran for 10 minutes without blowing a fuse (sporatic electrical issues <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> ). I wiggled every wire I could find under the hook with no success recreating the issue. Don't really feel confident driving it to work until I know what is wrong and that it won't randomly pop back up when I'm on my way to somewhere important.

I was going to make a joking comment about it being a Land Rover Amigo... then I remembered those actually exist (sort-of):

I don't know what this means (if anything); but the Amigo has died 5 times so far and 3 of the 5 times were during hard left turns. I am driving it with a bandaid fix for now. I replaced the ECM fuse with a 15A breaker fuse that automatically resets. So I'm driving, it dies, then I just restart it and continue driving. If history is any indication, this bandaid fix will likely become rather permanent if it works well enough to keep me from messing with an electrical issue. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I think that you can count on a electrical band-aid continuing to work just fine until a critical situation arises, then it will fail hard. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

From your description, it sounds as though your problem may be either a loose connector or a worn insulator that only contacts ground when you are turning left.
