The inside joint is where the driveshaft adjusts for length when the suspension travels. The outside joint should have no play or movement.

Underneath the hub flange there's a little c-clip that holds the axle into the spindle. You ought to be able to get the axle out with the wheel on the ground, if you want to check the joints out.
