Answers to your questions...

4) Using a lead wire with alligator clips ground the No. 10 terminal of the self-diagnosis connector (behind the glove box)

I think this step is incorrect.
Just saying... so everybody gets the best information...
Always open to debating this or other topics.

(There was and FSB or something that outlines why the "Dealer Scam Tool" couldnt be used for tune-ups...because it grounded #10 pin.)

Worked aout at about ú48 ~ $100 (US)
Now I have been accused of being a tight but $900 extra to get it from the local stealer, well thats just toooo much

Hey Steve,

I grew up on Beeston (in between Dereham and Swaffham)! I worked on Thorpe Rd for a few years, my wife and I lived on Clarence Rd and then Stoke Holy Cross for a short time. Do you live in Norwich? Norwich is one of my favourite cities and I've been to a few!

Huh. That's interesting! I wonder what grounding the #10 pin does? I would conjecture that doing this prevents the ECU from trying to step the ISC while you are adjusting the base idle? I grounded the pin when I set my base idle speed a while ago (before finally replacing the ISC). It didn't seem to cause any problems...

Do you or anyone else have a copy of that FSB (TSB?)? I'd be interested in reading it...

Small world..........yes

I live in Helledon, near Norwich airport
My kids swim for Dereham swimming club, the pool on the road between North Elmham & Dereham, just past the turnoff to Beeston
I used to work on Thorpe Road, Laurence Scott & Electromotors, before changing jobs to Metroflex in the church next to the Ford garage, also on Thorpe Road. & my wife worked on Clarence Road/Thorpe Road at the main sorting office.

I dont remember why.. your esplaination is good enuff

Might have been the russian pdf site-"how to use the factory tool manual" or it was a TSB.This is just memory so ... I think it said to disconnect the tool from the ASDL when setting idle because the the connector is grounding pin-10.

I let you know if I see it again
