Also look for any cylinder ballance problems. All it takes is a missing vacuum fitting at one port or a small leak to get one cylinder to run lean enough to make the motor shake.

I have put a scope on the O2 sensor at idle as a way to pinpoint a vacuum leak. You could see the blip in the voltage as the one lean cylinder fired. Turns out I forgot to plug a port vor the cruise control on the intake manifold that was located in front of cylinder #3.

A compression test never hurts just to be sure.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey guys , put some miles on break in 750 km. to be exact.Oil was changed at 400km. Anyway, the miles I did put on I noticed the vibration was not to bad at 90km/hr,but at 120km/hr.it vibrated worse again. This causes my nose hairs to tickel . This thing feels like it's going to blow up,or something?
I can tell you I'm not to happy with it & I guess I'm stuck with it .THIS REALLY F@#!'N SUCKS BIG TIME!

With the 2.6 rebuilt now & the balance shafts eliminated,& an E-kit installed in its place. I know from installing two of these kits before there was some vibration mostly at idle & seemed not to bad at higher speeds.I find it at higher speeds & all through the gears.

Welcome to my world. My truck turned into a buzz-box the day I put the rebuilt 2.6l in. The cab resonates just off idle, at higher RPM's the shift knob starts singing, and the engine is loud overall.

I'm not happy with the BSE. It seems like a cheap way out when doing a rebuild, and if I do this job again I will get an engine with the balance shaft installed as the Mitsubishi God's intended. My original motor, when running with a correctly tuned mikuni, idled smooth enough that it was hard to tell it was even running. I almost wish I had just done a top overhaul on it and kept it rather than subbing out for this buzzy thing I have under the hood now.

Well I'm glad I'm not alone , like I said before my other two motors I've done before never vibrated like this!,with the E-kit in it.The TOYOTA's 4cyl. do not have the shafts & it 's fine .So what's the deal in designing something with the shafts in it ,when YODA can make it work with out?

The 2.6 has a pretty long stroke for low end torque. A long stroke gets you higher piston speeds and makes the 4 cyl sahke problem worse.

Once they had a design with the ballance shafts having light pistons and rods as not as much of an issue and a long stroke 4 cyl was as smooth as a six cyl... So the 2.6 gets some pretty beefy parts and a long stroke for good torque.

Want to do a 4 cyl without ballance shafts? Use a short stroke, light rods and pistons and tune the major components that are bolted to the motor to have a high resonant frequency.
