Hey guys just wondering what kind of lockers/limited slips fit in the front of a gen1. Also what kind of fluid do the rear axles, t-case and trans take (type f or dexron 3). I tried the search function but i couldn't come up with anything.

The Trans fluid for the auto will be on the dipstick. It should say diamond-spII or sp-III. Some say to use dex III, but I don't trust it. The Manual trans and transfer say to use a 75-90w GL-4 or higher spec and GL-5 spec in the diffs.

Searching for: +front +locker = lots of hits +front +lsd = lots of hits again
Locker is ARB, not sure if there is one for the 4-cyl, I think just the V6.
LSD options are based on StarQuest rear diffs and varies between years on what to mix-and-match.

I think the owners manual says to use Dex2 or 3 in the gen1 auto tranny. Tcase and diff is gear oil. If a LSD in rear, you are supposed to put some additive.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Locker is ARB, not sure if there is one for the 4-cyl, I think just the V6. The only ARB front locker available for any Montero is the RD110. It will fit any Gen I V6 front diff and many Gen 2 V6 front diffs. It will not fit the 4-cyl front diff, but a Gen I V6 front diff, mounts, and CV axles can be swapped into the front of a 4-cyl rig fairly easily. When I did this I had to get my front drive shaft shortened about an inch an a half.

Righteeo Capn. And for those inclined to do the front axle swap, grap yourself the break booster from the donor while your're at it.
For the GenIIs, I think the larger front diffs are mainly in 3.5s. Also in MT 3.0 SOHC 24Vs. (And we know how few of them there are. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />)

The reason I asked was because I went to the ARB site and it said that the RD110 Will not fit into the gen1 v6 front axle. That and I wanted to be sure before I bought one and set it up.
