I once heard that you can swap the back section between 2WD and 4WD trannys (of the same model), but not sure about that. You could probably ask about that on MarlinCrawler's web forum and find out for sure.

Yes, you can bolt up a top-shift gear drive t-case to a W56 (4WD) tranny.
