Actually, the 1.6L will give you better gas milleage. Still, I get about 18 to 20 and on good days, I might get 22 with my 1.6L. His engine must be running pretty new for the 27. 22 is great for a 4 wheel drive, just look at the Jeeps with a 6Cyl at 12 to 15 and the Hummers at 7 to 12.
