Need a Spot
This 89 Trooper I have is my first 4 Cyl 4x4, all others have been 6 or 8's. How is the power on these things in the mud? I have not put mine in any mud yet because I need to repair a CV boot and get some mud tires, but was just wonder how they hold up off road.

Thanks!

Roll Me Over
My understanding of running in mud is that there is no substitute for horsepower. The Isuzu 2.6 has around 120 little ponies, on a new engine, not one that is 18 years old or so.

The Isuzu 4x4s are very capable rigs in a number of situations, but mud-running probably isn't one of them.

Thanks for the reply. I dont plan on racing it in the mud, or going and running off in any deep holes, but I am making this into a deer woods truck, and I know I will encounter some holes from time to time.

Its got enough power to keep going in first gear with 31's as long as you dont plan on fast or huge tires

How will it do with a set of 32's? I've got a set of boggers I want to put under it. I'm sure it is not much of a difference.

Body Damage is Cool
I've got the 2.8, but Its got the same power as a 2.6 and mine does fine.

It did alright with 35's and stock gearing.

I've taken my 86 in the mud with 31's and had no problem, I do have a new 2.3 motor installed and plan on moding the engine and suspention. New Carbs w/filter,Cam,exhaust,and a 3inch lift with some 35s.
