Ticking sound in 4WD

Need a Spot

I know it is a CV axle, but I'm not sure if it is the boot or the whole axle. When I put my rig in 4WD, it makes a tick tick tick tick tick sound. It does not make it when it is in 2WD. It is only on the drivers side.

How can I tell if it is just a boot or the whole axle which needs replaced?
