>>>*I ran into an over active police officer one night at 3 AM. I had stopped to check on my shop, we had been having late night visitors.
He had a trainee with him, first night on the force, I guess he was showing the new guy how to handle us tough guys.
*Never made it to the building, all of a sudden flashlights were shining in the window and I was being ordered out of the car. I started to get out, confused, guess I wasn't fast enough, found myself slammed up against my car and handcuffed???
I believe my overly polite statement of "What the f**k do you think you are doing, a**ho*e?" may have caused some irritation.... ...Then he wanted to do a field sobriety test, I told him to stuff it. (They couldn't make us do that back then and I knew that.) I was sober but by then I was mad.
They actually left my old 1966 Chevy Nova sitting there on my lot with the lights on and the engine running. (My brother came down and took care of that after I called him.) Man, was that cop pi**ed off at me!
Yep, jail. The old Rocky Butte facility. Charge was "Suspicion of attempting to break and enter."....???
But I owned the place. At the window, the cop sitting there told me I could post bail, $505.00. I reached in my pocket and handed him 6 hundred dollar bills. So they added disorderly conduct and that was enough that I came up short.
After a couple of hours there was a shift change, the next Cop on duty I knew, seems I did the engine in his Torino.
He asked me what was up and I told him. He grinned and said, "Going to sue, huh?" Then went and got me some coffee.
The Judge threw out the case of course.
I did sue, for 1/2 million dollars and an apology. No chance of winning that but it sure does cause difficulties with guys like me that can file their own lawsuits. They were looking for a way out when they got the order for disclosure of assets.
Seems the arresting officer had literally dozens of other complaints, too. I was just 24, the Cop didn't believe me when I told him I owned the property. They case was settled when I told them I just wanted that guy off the streets and asked them why they didn't put him on dispatch or something where he couldn't hurt anybody?
*I kinda think they wanted to do that anyway so that is what they did.
I got two speeding tickets later that year, though. First two in my life, both 15 over.... .....*EB
