Sounds like a good deal, when was the timing chain last replaced. They should be changed idealy on a 22R every 90K.
Also IMHO i think the 22r is faster off the line than the 3.sl0w. Actually i think a 22r has more power in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Its in 4th and 5th that the 3.0 has more grunt.
My dad has a 95 extra cab with the 3.0 and my truck is rollin 33's w/ 4.88 gears and mine will edge out his in a drag.
-also the 22R yotas with 31's (assuming it has 4.10 gears) will run third gear will run third just about any where, and in third you can take 'em up to 60-65mph pretty easy all though it will be rev'vin pretty high (about 4200rpms)
-you should be able to hold a good speed where ever you go especially if you put 4.56 gears in.
(these are just my opinions from driving both a 85 22R and a 95 3.0 for the past years all over the mountains of NorCal, others might disagree)

Youre kidding right? i've got 33's and stock gears and im as fast as a 22re when im pulling a trailer...

Is that trailer really a 1 ton dodge giving you a push down a hill. Also i am talking about motors that are in good condition and the 22R rigs have appropraite gearing. Maybe those 22R's you were racing were worn out dogs or were rollin big tires w/ stock gearing. I have driven both motors back and forth for the last three years and the 22R feels quicker off the line, the 3.sl0w only seems to have more grunt in 4th and 5th gear. But maybe its just because i am talking Miles Per Hour not kilometers per hour

LOL... pop up trailer, probably 1500lbs... and probably another 800lbs of luggage in teh truck... pulled like nothing... i kept up to my cousins turbodiesel ford just fine... (he was pulling a larger trailer).
But yea, i'd love to "race" any 22re... my bud has one, but it's an auto... very slow.
But yea, there is no way a 145lb-ft 22re can beat a 185lb-ft 3vze... weight diff... maybe 200 lbs... not enough to make up for the lack of power... also 100hp vs 150hp?
maybe a 2wd single cab 2wd 5 spd vs a 4wd v6 auto 4runner (im talking 1st gen 4runner, not second) yea the 22re would probably win.
But my 89 4runner v6 5spd vs a 88 pickup 22re 5 spd... i'd win...
Someone up here race me for fun, it'll all be over before we hit the speed limit anyways <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
