![[Linked Image]](http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r34/hudginsiii/S6300207.jpg) Well, heres my step into the after market support world! Gee, I thought the Jeep guys would be a little more positive, but it seems that the only Jeep is a Wrangler to them. They are real supportive, don't get me wrong. But it seems they think the Cherokee can't be used much for off road. But then, we have heard that about our Sporty's too, havn't we. What do you think, 31" tires, 3.5" lift kit, and maybe a roof rack? (I hate having the spare inside!) Opinions?

there was a guy in my dads 4x4 club running an older cherokee, and not sure exactly what he had done to it, but he could hang with anyone on the trail, only thing limiting him was the tire size, if 44"s dig the rut 31"s won't get you through it!

well I was saying that he was running 31's and if another guy was running 44's and dug a rut, good luck following the same path.! thats was back when nobody had a tube frame crawler and most guys were running 31"s -33"s so it was still fair game for most entry level guys.
then it got to the "bigger is better" game and the average tire size went to 38"s my dad got out of the 4wheeling game shortly after (those tires are not cheap!)
he did start building a tube frame on a early bronco frame, and he had custom rims made to fit implement tires (tractor tires) that were 40" and had the V pattern tread, he never finished the project as he was doing it in his time off, AND every 3 months his buddy would tell him that now he needs to change this or that because everyone else is doing it that way instead so he got tired of that game too. (his buddy was actually 4 wheeling, and my dad was just building)

Yep, wounder where all those guys money comes from......maybe they're kids are going hungry or something. But, I still gotta go get groceries in mine, so a 3.5 lift and 31s will havt'a do for now. Besides, My KIA went almost everywhere I wanted to go with that setup. ..............Well, ok, maybe 33's.

yea I don;t know how some of these guys manage to have so much extra cash, there is always a few guys who just make big bucks and can afford to basically do a sky is the limit style build.
I am driving a 95 kia sportage with 180,000 miles on it, I am NOT one of those big bucks guys!! But I also plan to use my truck on road more than off road , since it is my daily driver. so its nice to stick under $500 into a complete lift setup and get 4" (or pretty close). Including this lift and my recent tires purchase and some front end work I am up to $1200, or $2100 including buying the vehicle (paid $900 for it).
I like it for gas mileage, I could have bought a locked and lifted 1980 bronco for $1300 (front and rear locked, lunchbox style) but at 13 MPG on a good day, and $3.30 a gallon I think I will pass!
If I had a daily driver but wanted a trail rig, the bronco would have been a great buy.
the jeep looks nice by the way, I'm sure if you wheel with any of these guys from the forum you will still see a sportage, nobody will believe you that you pushed a sportage with a tow strap JK
Thats an old saying the club had, that you were pushing the vehicle ahead of you with the tow strap, I guess it made things less tense if we could make a joke of the situation !

I am interested in trying out my new tires they measure a little over 29" (even though the size is 30x9.50) now that I look back I should have kept the buckshots I had, those were 30x9.50 as well but the measured 31" so that would have given me an extra inch of lift. and where the lift counts is the tires, you can have a 10" lift but if your tires are 30" tall, you will only have so much room between the rear axle and the ground, only way to move that up higher is with taller tires.
BUT then you DO need the suspension and or body lift to make those bigger tires fit. Thats why I say the sky is the limit (well your wallet is your own personal limit!!)
