He's showin all the ladys he's in the area. Bucks rub scent onto these trees in this fashion to tell all of the other bucks how old/large and potent he is through the scent and he'll also hoof up the turf and pee to the same effect. Not a bad deer to be honest but we're used to that here in Wyoming.
