Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
Here we go again.... I went 4 wheeling up past Ballarat in South Panamint Valley, CA (pictures soon) here's a link that's close to the trip we did. http://away-home.tripod.com/manson_barkerranch.htmlWell, it was very dusty on the trail but I can't imagine the K&N filter getting clobbered on one trip. I started the truck up a few days later and it feels like it's missing a cylinder or the timing is off. Tonight I got a check engine light. Anyone have any advice other than what the manual recommends (take to dealer and pay gobs of cash). Thanks, Vern

Clean your filter and your MAF. Get the codes read at a local box store; they'll do it for free.
The K&N lets in more air, AND more dirt. Start there.

BTDT. It's entirely possible the K&N got gummed up.

We can't offer any specific help until you tell us what the codes are. As mentioned, you can get them read for free at Autozone and other places.

I'll start with cleaning the filter and going to Autozone to get the codes. Is there a link for cleaning the MAF?
Thanks for the help,
by the way, the T-100 did great on the trip. I followed a Jeep CJ, new Tacoma TRD and Samerai. Never bottomed out once while the others where dinging their skid plates. Although, I have to admit hanging on the 800 foot cliff going over the rock slide was a bit harder in the wider T.
I put up some pics soon.

I had the same problem a while back. Codes said I had missfires on 2 or 3 cyls. They tried to sell me on all kind of stuff. Turned out to only be a cracked vacuum line. I had to find mine at night with a flash light. Hope its that easy for ya.

MAF cleaning is buried in the Taco 30K maintenance article. MAF linky Very thin wire; NO poking.

Replaced both vehicle's K&N with an Amsoil foam filter... Hers still has the airbox; mine doesn't. Been pretty pleased so far... The MAF sensor & pipe seem to be keeping clean; much more so than before.

TPS code is common, if your 3.4 has a three wire TPS (as opposed to a four wire) replace that also. Usual symptoms are high idle and surging at freeway speeds. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
