oil pressure sending unit #849309 11/28/07 07:16 PM

Anyone got a stock mitsu spare oil pressure sending unit lying around? I need to make a test. My pressure is pegged out on the gauge at all times the engine is cranked. The engine is running fine and I assume it's the send unit. If it's bad, I may go with a mechanical unit. The dealership wants nearly $45 for a new one.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Disconnect wire from sender. Does gauge still go full scale? If so, wire is shorted to ground between gauge and sender. If not, use ohmeter to check between sender wire terminal and metal body of sender. If no resistance, sender is bad - shorted internally to ground.

Thanks for the info. I tried disconnecting the wire from the sending unit, the oil pressure meter read nothing, so that's a good sign. I'll get out my meter to try the other thing.

I meant to check the manual a couple of days ago for a way to check the sending unit but never got around to it (Uta gave me a mutant interstellar virus from another galaxy, an alien pox... okay it was just a sinus infection...). This will save me some time.

Has there ever been a write up making of the gauge cluster in the pic near the bottom of this thread?:

gauges

What size gauges were used? 2-5/8 for all?

Thanks!

Sending unit is definitely bad.

Every place I've checked so far wanted as much as or nearly as much as the dealership for a sending unit.
