first you remove the plastic timing belt cover that goes over the camshaft crank then remove the camshaft crank with our losing the allignment other wise when you put it back together your trucks timing will ba all screwed up...so get a white out pen or something and clearly mark it...when you remove the crank be sure to keep the belt taught to make sure the crank shaft and other camshaft dont lose their timing either...

......you got montero questions...ive got answers! i know it all

Welcome! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> I'm delighted that we now have someone on the forum that knows everything there is to know about Monteros. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

You might want to add the following information to your knowledge bank:

1) The camshaft "crank" is usually called a "sprocket".

2) You don't need a white-out marking pen if you use the timing marks on the camshaft sprocket.

3) It's usually a lot easier to remove/replace the cam sprocket and re-time the engine if you first loosen the timing belt tensioner bolt and remove the spring.

It sounds like you've done quite a bit of work to your truck!
