Just wondering how your trucks are doing in this cold snap. Personally, I'm very impressed with just the block heater. The difference is huge! Phil told me it worked well, but I didn't expect this. Started up at -20C this morning with a smoother idle than at 0C. (You guys should have heard the Ford SuperDuty next door. Stalled 3 times and sounded like a 50 gallon drum full of hammers.)
Nevertheless, I'm picking up my pan heater this afternoon. Bring on the cold.
Also reporting that these Motomaster M/Ts are fine so far, very grippy even on ice (at low speeds). Combined with the heavy weight, low horsepower and 4x4, this is turning out to be great winter vehicle!
Still trying to convince the wife I need an Audi Quattro too.

Well, starting is fine. I plug the truck in, block heater comes on at 3am, I leave at 7ish, starts fine, and is warmed up within about 3mins.
I am having some issues however. Front caliper stuck, wheel was hot to the touch, even at -15*C. Ordered twin pistons off ebay but its gonna take em a while, so I had to work the old one loose night before last, no garage yet in the new house, so I froze my off. And now it seems as if I'm having an issue with my center VC not locking, so AWD is not functional at the moment, which really sucks for my commute. I'm starting a post in tech, if anyone has ideas?
Ah well... 2 weeks holidays soon for me and Redbull. Well deserved too, methinks.
Curtis, you could probably use a block cooler, eh?

Yeah, it's pretty tough. It's supposed to go below 0?C this weekend here! Maybe even get enough snow to put her into AWD. LOL. HAHA from Vancouver

Well, the heated garage seems to keep her happy so a.m. starts are great. It does sit outside for the day and has no troubles starting at night when i leave. BFG AT's are as always my favorite dd tire. Rear heater may have issues.

the cold sucks, my pajero pops and farts and takes 20 minutes to warm up before I'll even think about driving it. I don't have the factory throttle lock which is a pain in the ass but I don't want to smoke my neighbors out too bad.

Hope the block heater install goes well buddy!
Once you have that bad boy in, you'll need about 60 seconds, and then you can slowly drive away.

yah so I didn't install it today...I procrastinate too bad. maybe tomorrow! I may have to let it idle all night if I want it to start in the morning. 15W40 oil makes it a little brutal in the morning too.

Decided to try a test. Didn't plug it in. Left the Paj out all last night and today until 3pm.
i fired it up in MINUS 19 and no sun. It took 3 turnovers and my foot on the pedal to get it going and keep it going. i put the 'throttle' lever to keep the engine at 1800 rpm to warm up. Lots of black smoke followed by some blue. Eventually no more blue smoke. Pretty happy. i run 20/50 synthetic. Only concern is the rear heater on floor setting...Perfect! But if i put it to the vents along the roof line...it runs cool air. Do i need to let it run for a while before the cool becomes warm? Hmmm...

Not sure on that one, since my rear heat is only on the floor. I will tell you though, that a few times last winter I popped my GFI outside outlet (later discovered a faulty cord), and went out on a -27*C morning last winter and it did start. I cycled the glow plugs twice and then it fired. It was lumpy for a bit, but at least we know they'll go, when unplugged, right?
