When I start mine when it is cold and the "Afterglow" system is on I see the battery symbol glowing slightly. Is this normal? I put my multimeter on the battery after starting it, it was showing 12.3 volts while the afterglow system was on. Once the afterglow system was off it showed 14.3 volts.

thats normal, those glowplugs suck alot of juice. well I don't know if its normal but mine does the same thing haha. my afterglow system doesn't always turn on, sometimes I have to shut it off and re-start it for it to work.

my turbo timer has a digital volt-gauge on it aswell so I see it changing all the time, the rear defroster sure sucks alot of juice.

here is a question...why do all these rhd japanese vehicles have crappy rear defrosts with no timers...I have left mine on for days before noticing the light was on. my friends lancer GSR is the same thing, takes forever to melt the ice and has no timer on it

Is it hard on the rear defrost to leave it on? I can't see mine at all where I have the wheel tilt set at, so it ends up staying on for days or even weeks (once!).

your pajero will always throw blue smoke when its cold. mine fills the street with smoke on a cold morning after about 4 trys of starting it after it stalls. I would run some good fuel conditioner through your truck because it probably has never had any in it and in Japan there diesel is MUCH cleaner than ours. I ran 1/3 of a bottle of "redline diesel fuel catalyst" every fill-up since I have owned it, I have just recently switched to "Stanadyne lubricity formula" as my engine seems to like it better for fuel mileage. If you don't run anything, over time all the seals in your pump will dry out and your injectors will slowly fail.

Where do you purchase the Stanadyne product?

Put in the battery warmer - then I had lots better cranking so would only take about 2 attempts to start. Found a good mechanic & had the block heater put in - he went in from the top & took 4 hours -including pressure testing the coolant system after the install to ensure the heater o-ring worked OK. After a couple hours heating it now starts in -15 weather like on a Vancouver summer day (when & where I bought it!)

Yeah, where do you purchase he standyne...I have been using Diesel conditioner but in the one horse town I live in I am reduced to using Kleen Flo diesel conditioner and I am only running it every second time. By the way, my milage Sucks!

I have since noticed that if my vehicle is not left to warm up on the high idle for about 10-15 minutes I can expect a stall at the nearest intersection only to try to start it again for about 15 minutes. After that, it's fine and runs like a top but this never happened originally, just since I have put on the new fuel filter and lift and tires. I can only assume that my fuel economy has dropped due to the big tires but the stalling may have something to do with the cold fuel in this new fuel filter. Any ideas?

I get the Stanadyne from my friends shop...he brought it in for me, I'll ask him where he gets it.

I couldn't tell you why your truck dies after you've been driving it, the only time mine stalls is within the first 2 seconds of starting it. after 2 or 3 tries it will idle good.

I suspect it was bad fuel..It's not doing it anymore. I think I defiantely have to change out my glow plugs though...Man does it hate me when it hasn't been run for about 5 hours or more. It takes about 2 or three minutes of spuratic cranking to get the thing to fire, even if it's plugged in and a warm day. Where did you get your glow plugs from? Is there an aftermarket plug that is readily available or is it straight from mitsubishi only?

Do you have a block heater yet? Makes a HUGE difference to cold weather starting. I mean an unbelievable difference.

You can easily test your glow plugs with an ohmmeter. POCUK has info there on what the resistances should be. Also, cleaning the busbar can help deliver more power to the plugs.

Need a Spot
This morning it was 11?F/-11?C, I forgot to plug in! Now It won't start. During the day I can't plug in at work so I go start it a few times and let it warm up.

I have new glow plugs, I guess i better get them installed.
I also think I need dual batteries.
Oh well, I will go jump it via the Powerstroke that will start.
