Getting the Wheeling Fever
Anyone know of a good place to buy metal body panels for early 4Runners? I would like to replace the rusty panels over the wheels. Thanks

Yup what's wrong with fiberglass? no rust, and super strong,

this is the panel after my rollover and fresh repaint. all it needed was a sanding and a fresh coat of paint, a steel panel would have been crushed.

I'm also going to start hunting for good 1st gen 4r body parts. I need a couple of fenders and tailgate shell. I'd love to have fiberglass parts but the price is exorbitant. I mean, the fenders are $160, add $80 customs fee and then add in say $40 shipping. That's dinging close to $300!!! For one fender!

I've read somewhere you can call the local salvage yard and they can order new metal fenders for like $150 ea, no shipping.
I'll be checking on that next week.

If anyone else knows a resource for METAL body parts (stop with pushing the $$$ fiber when people ask for METAL, I don't know why you guys keep doing that when it's not cost-effective unless you live in Canada), please post up.

Relax. People are trying to help. If you don't want it, learn to search - Google might be helpful.

DUDE, do you want QUALITY or do you want it to rust out in 10 years just like last time? And i dont believe the price is exorbetant, if you care about your truck, and are going to keep it another 10 years, what's 1000 bucks into new body panels if the trucks going to last? I got all new panels, cause i know my truck is still going to be running in 10 years.
Plus, if you buy all the panels, skins, fenders, etc all at once, you save on shipping etc, and you know youre buying parts that are GOOD/ better than OEM.

Have you checked the dealer's prices lately for body panels? Consider doing so; and please post the prices you're given.
