Need a Spot
My wifes 92 4runner 4x4 V6 had the fan grenade. It took out the battery, fan, fan shroud, radiator, and the two air box looking plastic parts just left of the main air filter box. The two boxes appear to have had air/vaccuum lines coming from them. What are these boxes and what are the part numbers. I need to mainly know what to call them so I can start calling around to junk yards. If you know what I am talking about, I would greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks! Jonathan [Linked Image]

Holy crap dude, that looks like the intake silencer box, you can remove it completely and pluge up the holes, if you'd like. looks like fun

You can remove them but it will make farting noises.

Too bad. I threw mine away not too long ago.

The factory puts those there to quiet down the intake noise. Kind of like mufflers but on the intake

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I'll try and check with a guy who's been letting me pull parts off of his wrecked donor. I've been wondering about removing those intake boxes on mine to tell the truth. Looks restrictive as far as air flow goes, and clutters up the already crowded engine space.

Well, I found some good instructions on how to replace the air boxes with custom piping and airline connections. I have started the Mod this afternoon and I am almost completed. I am missing one barb connection and it'll be done. I haven't started it up yet since I haven't tracked down a radiator, fan and fan shroud. I need to call the local junk yards in the morning to see what they have. The radiator looks salvageable so I plan to have it checked out tomorrow as well. If it is ok, all I need is a fan and shroud to be back on the road. Nice.

Good to hear. Post up on how the air box mods go. I'm interested in doing eliminating mine.
