T.O.D. "CHECK" light? #849957 12/02/07 08:31 PM

Today we got our first snowfall of the year. Of course I proudly and confidently load the family into my truck to embark on our ride to mass. We get under way and I hit the 4WD button to fire up the T.O.D. when W.T.F.!!??- this heretofor never seen "CHECK" light fires up below the T.O.D. indicator...

Houston- we have us a problem. The indicator keeps flashing and doesn't engage and the "CHECK" light holds firm. I shut the 4WD high down, stop, shift into neutral, engage 4WD Low and that systems is a go...

So? What am I up against here?

TIA

Edited to add that there are NO MORE Isuzu dealers 'round here.

Thanks. It pays to know how to search.

I followed link to link to link. Much of the convo revolved around a '99 Rodeo LS 3.2 4x4 5 Speed. How much would my Trooper have in common with that setup?

While I haven't used the TOD since last winter, I have utilized 4WL a number of times, including this week so I know that things are engaging up there. I'm no mechanic, but if I had the time and the wherewithall- a MightyVac! -I would delve into the more in depth checks myself.

Is this the puppy I'm looking for?

No chance I can rap on it with a screwdriver if frozen up?

I dropped the Trooper off at my trustworthy shop last night for them to take a look see. I just got the call from them informing me that one of the solenoids was bad...that they are sold and replaced in pairs...and that we would be talking around $250 ordering from an Isuzu dealer in Jamaica, NY...who in turn would order from elsewhere.

I told the shop that I would look to cut out the middle man. Who should I look to order this from? I haven't had to do this before, but now with the shutting down of the two dealers near me...

Much appreciated.

Edited to ask: Just what would this "solenoid" be called? I'm unable to find any reference to it out there...
