I have a 2001 too ( I live in sugarcreek ohio about 12 miles from Dover, New Philadelphia small world) ok back to your ? when you lock the kia with the key you should hear the alarm set you need to use the key to disarm it also. the buttons do not turn off the alarm. try this clsoe the driver side door lock with your key it should chirp then unlock it it should chirp again, whats good about this alarm is you can have the windows down the alarm set and it someone even lifts the button the horn goes off, do you have your owners manual ?
