That looks nice. I just welded my 2" square stock onto a piece of 3/8" plate with 4 holes in it. Works great and I get to keep my step. I have a piece of 3/8" angle iron with a hole drilled it it on each side for the safety chains.

Doug,
i bought 2" receiver tube from Greggs. My bud is always an overkill type of fab/welder. We will retain the stock opening but we will cut it out and brace the new receiver. It has to be able to hold 400lbs (bike and carrier).
i am sure he will do one for you if you want. Once mine is done tomorrow night, i will let you know costs. (it won't be much)
i also want to retain factory step.
Spider and Don M,
How much weight do you figure is on that receiver?
Thanks.
When he looked at mine, he did not feel factory plating was strong enough. Remember he is overkill

He built this for my 'home'

And this for my tire carrier:

I'd be in for one of those too... except my 650 dual-sport weighs almost 400 without the rack.. LOL. Probably too much for the frame at that point.

I am now officially a Pajero owner. .

Getting a bike in the spring, so watching this thread! Mine'll be too heavy for my little rig too (getting a 650 dual too), but fun to watch you guys doing mods.

I don't know the exact weight that is on the hitch but I would guess about 300-400. It drops my back end real low (but there is still room for travel) ...

I could almost put my quad up in my roof tray, it weighs 340lbs and i've had 300lbs. up there no problem. but I still won't do that haha...a big bump might collapse my rain-gutters . I just need to find a little utility trailer to haul my quad around with.

Let me see if i got this right?
You used the 4 holes on the Pajero receiver that exist?
You took a plate of 3/8 steel and welded a 2" receiver stock to it?
Than you drilled 4 holes in that plate and used Pajero bolts to attach plate/receiver to stock holes on Pajero?

If i understand that correctly and it holds the weight no problem, that is brilliant, easy and quick to do!
We did not get it done last night but we are doing it today.

Anyone know the tongue capacity and pulling capacity on these 4 door Pajero's?

well the heaviest duty hitch I have found for it was a Drawtite Class III Hitch which holds 400lbs tongue weight and 4000lb towing. I'm not sure what the truck is rated for though. my old ram 50 had a hitch on it that was good for 5000lbs which was retarded, it wouldn't pull 5000lbs down a hill hahaha.
