My vehicle is making a loud clicking noise and there is exhaust oder coming in the cab. I took the heat sheild off and all seems to be fine in appearance.

How do I check for a leak and where?????????? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I don't see anything wrong. Help please??????

Is there any methods or tricks to this?

I am also losing horsepower when I initially eccelerate R/T this leak (pretty noticable).

Thanks,
MIKE <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I had many exhaust leaks in mine. where the flanges are welded to the pipe is where ALL of my leaks were, every single one needed re-welding (much cheaper than replacing everything!

otherwise it may be one of the gaskets in between the flanges.

all it takes is a tiny hole to make noise!

Oh and none of them were noticeable visually until I unbolted it from the car, then I found the problems !

mine is quiet again.

if you have the cast manafold it may be cracked. They can make noise when they expand and contract and leak when cold.

Need a Spot
While the exhaust is still cold, so do it quickly, spray any area that you think is suspect of leaking with a mixture of dishwashing soap and water. Then look for bubbles, and you will find your leak. THis will cautch a very small leak, however a very large leak will jusy blow the soap awayfrom the leak, so watch it closly. once the exhaust gets too hot youl have to stop.

Thanks all--for the advice.

I took another look today and saw a hole approx. 4-5 cm in the center of the cast manifold (although not part of the exhaust channels) it looks still sealed.
I'll check with the saop thing later.

I'm going to buy FLYBOY'S PORTED headers anyway for a good deal. I justy hope the stock gasket will fit <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

Just bought the headers from FLYBOY yesterday.

Will replace a cracked cast manifold soon. will post the pics.

A nice afternoon project and have to buy a couple of exhaust gaskets.

Well, wish me some luck!

Update on my problem: The manifold has a circular hole about 5 cm. Still driving it until FLYBOY'S Exhaust SYS gets here. At first I thought that it was not involving the flow----but it is.

My HP is laggig a bit and the noise is quite annoying!

Some one said that I could cause damage to the valves when I drive it like this (due to influx of cold air).

Is this true or possible????????
