You have to use quotes like "auto conversion"

Thanks. That helps.

I'll save you some time....Montero's are cheap buy one with a Auto already in it. It's WAY less trouble. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

... and WAY unavailable up here in the upper midwest. Most died of rust 10 years ago. As a neighbor noted last week, parts are getting real hard to find, and boneyards haven't had a pick to pull in a decade.

Good news: the G54B on EFI w/o turbo makes a TON of mid range torque. Bad news: fasteddy told me so. 33's, a torquey motor, and a KM-148 cannot co-habitate at 80 mph. i lost my SECOND set of layshaft teeth <1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and reverse go wheeee-bang! at one time>in 10K miles. More good news: i had enough torque to limp 400 miles home in 4th gear alone. Including 5 stops for gas <yikes!>.

Anyone wanting to clear their garage of the "setup" parts for an auto conversion should drop me a note in PM. I've found an auto and auto xfer case for a reasonable amount, locally --- but need everything else.

Last: I have a spare 5spd xfer case. Is it convertible to auto use? One of fasteddy's posts would seem to imply this is possible. If it is, can I use the 5spd drive shafts? or is the case in a different PLACE, requiring a different drive shaft length?
