Getting the Wheeling Fever

Hey guys... I sold my 92 Rodeo and now I have a 99 Amigo (LOVE IT !!!). Questions: 1) What does a winch typically come with for mounting ? I'm strongly considering the Smittybilt XRC8. 2) My Amigo came with the factory off-road package / front guard and I'm wondering if that is where the winch should get mounted ? If not, do I just have someone weld the winch to the frame somehow under the bumper ? The front guard looks similar to this and mounts on the bottom like this one: ![[Linked Image]](http://www.goindustries.com/shop/images/33641BCOMPLETE.jpg)

To answer the first part of your question second... Most winches come with just the winch and cable some mounting bolts and a fairlead. You can buy a mount that will plug into a receiver hitch so its removable. Or if you're going custom you could buy just a mounting plate with predrilled mounting holes. Then its up to you to get the mounting plate attached to something. Before you buy anthing I would talk to whoever it is that you are considering to do custom work. Then you'll have a ballpark pricerange to work with. At that point you may be in the price neighborhood of a winch bumper and have a decision to make. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
when looking for a container to hold drained brake fluid, find a container that is different from the beverage you are currently consuming.

It doesn't seem like the brush guard would be strong enough, but maybe it could be beefed up with a little creativity. Here is a closeup of the winch mount on my Rodeo Sport (2nd gen Amigo). You can see how securely the bumper is welded into the frame. I've done some really hard pulls with this setup. My winch is not just for show. ![[Linked Image]](http://pics.montypics.com/phohmann/2007-12-10/1197297384_bumpercloseup.jpg)

be careful before you get started, on what winch you are using. in the above pics you have a winch with the solenoid mounted next to the winch. this allows you to move your winch up a bit higher. i have a winch that is with solenoid on top, and so the set up above wont work unless you cut your stock bumper in half. which i didn;t. so i made a tray, then cut the bumper and modified my brush guard to fit. here is some pics. pm me if you want more info. those pics above are Bansil's job on the rodeo. ![[Linked Image]](http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1/plaza500/winchmount/wqe.jpg)
