My LC header has the sensor in one of the single tubes, although I think the newer design moves that down to the collector section. You could always just have a new sensor flange welded onto the collector of the header and see if it makes any difference. Or try a heated sensor (4 wire) and see if that makes any difference.

I have a TRD Level 1 cam, 0.020" over cylinders and an LC header and no missing.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Well, this problem still exists.... Can anyone tell me what the symptoms are for a fuel injector that's not spraying effectively? my idle isn't too good (kinda "lopey") but throttle response is right there.. and of course..... no codes have been thrown.

Well, the fuel injectors are spliced into the harness; these commonly fail on the older trucks. We recommend removing the butt connectors and soldering them for a repair.

If you want to say to heck with it; pull the fuel injectors and send them off to be refurbished. www.rceng.com or www.witchhunter.com About $25 each plus shipping. Send the CS injector too.

About the only way to see the spray pattern is to pull it and ops check it per the FSM.

Tip: O-rings are wetted with FUEL, not anything else- for reinstalling.

Hope that gets you further along.

Might be a long shot too, but there's a TSB for the 22RE for hard start/rough idle. Go to our FSM sticky here, then go to the online library link, and log in to find it. Can't post a direct linky to it here.

+1 for Witchhunters. I recently had mine done, and I think they were only $16 or so apiece.

think I finally found the source!!!!!!!! changed the fuel filter with no change and decided to do a complete check of every possible vacuum source as it still is running lean. took a can of brake cleaner and doused all intake orifaces and low and behold... the #4 fuel injector has a big vacuum leak and the #3 has a small leak. Looks like the gentleman who rebuilt my engine didn't do such a fine job of reinstalling the injectors.... So... off comes the upper intake to access the injectors. Anybody have some Best known methods for pulling injectors? Since I'll have them out.. I'll send them out for cleaning and balancing. Thanks for the resources above for this service.

They just pull out with ease, nothing really holds them in place other than the o-ring and seat.

OK, split the intake apart and removed the injectors. Sent them out to Witchhunter for cleaning/flow balanced. They'll send new Quad rings and O-rings upon return. Also bought new injector connectors ( Bosch C type from RC engineering) as 2 of the 4 had broken connectors. Looking forward to putting it all together.. Question.. Have you guys reused the copper gaskets used to seal the fuel connections at the fuel rail and at the cold start injector?

I reuse them all the time.

A tip:

Anneal them before installation. After they are clean and dry, hold them with a pair of pliers and heat them up with a torch. Dip it in water to cool it off, and it's ready to be reinstalled.

It won't leak.

Sweet! Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a go once all the connectors and injectors arrive. I'll report back on how it all goes together and how she runs afterwards. I'm hoping nothing but..

OK, got the engine all together again with fresh injectors and new injector connectors. Throttle response is great but still having a loping idle. Cold starts and the engine idles poorly and low but once up to temp, it's just a loping idle. No vacuum leaks now (redid the entire intake spray with brake cleaner and no rise in idle). So... temp sensor perhaps? I'll recheck valve clearance again. Any other thoughts?? This one is baffling and beating me up
